"What's the point? What's the point of forcing myself to eat the green beans and the sugar free ice cream? What do I get out of all of this besides pure torture??" These are just some of the questions you may be asking yourself on your journey towards healthier eating. You may think there's no point, it's all just some fad, but I'm here to tell you otherwise. Eating healthy actaully comes with so many awesome benefits, some that you may have never even thought about. ![]() 1. Your body will adapt. After a little while of healthy eating, your body will begin to get so used to the healthy foods, that it won't even want the bad stuff. When you eat something super greasy, your stomach may hurt, telling you that your body no longer needs or can handle this kind of food anymore. This will make it much easier for you now to say no to unhealthy foods. 2. Enhanced Mood. Believe it or not, the parts of your brain which regulate mood are greatly impacted by what you eat. Certain foods such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, which are rich in vitamins and minerals, have been shown to be associated with lower risks of depression. Eating healthy also reduces stress on the body and keeps cortisol levels low. Foods that help with this includes protiens and foods with omega-3. Less stress on the body causes less stress to the person, helping them feel more energetic and overall in a better mood. 3. Longer Life. This should go without saying, but the healthier your eating habits are, the less likely you are to be prone to health related illnesses, therefore giving you a longer life ahead. Studies have shown many associations between a longer life and a consumption of fruits, vegetables, and omega-3 fats. 4. Improved Brain Function. Foods rich in B vitamins and folic acid can help reduce homocysteine levels. High homocysteine levels are linked to heart disease and dementia. Omega-3 fatty acids can help improve memory and learning and have also been proven to battle mood disorders, schizophrenia, dementia and depression. With all of these health benefits and more, there should be no reason why anyone wouldn't want to start eating healthier. You may want that greasy cheese burger over the green salad in the moment, but a little alteration to your everyday eating habits could improve your overall health immensely and add years to your life. Make the right choice. Eat Healthy:)
